Abstract/Summary:
With the increasing interactions between China and other countries in the world, both scholars and the general public are expecting to read more academic papers from other countries. Meanwhile, Chinese academic community is looking forward to outputting its academic achievements. Therefore, the translation of academic papers is of increasing significance. However, the translation of academic papers does not always have a clear guidance or rules to follow, and the research of academic paper translation is insufficient, which results in unqualified translation in some cases.Based on the translation practice of the academic paper, “the Macroeconomists as Scientists and Engineers”, the writer carries out the study of academic paper translation from the perspective of Peter Newmark’s text typology, so as to provide theoretical directions and improve quality of future academic paper translation. In the thesis, the studies of academic paper translation both at home and abroad are presented through reading relevant literatures. Then, the function, text type and features of academic papers are analyzed under the guidance of text typology. Finally, the author poses the translation problems at the lexical and syntactical level via case study, and offers corresponding solutions. In combination with semantic translation and communicative translation, translation techniques including adaptation, amplification, splitting, and shift for academic paper translation are elaborated with examples.
