As awareness of global environmental protection continually rises, along with the proposing and spreading of the idea of “sustainable development”, green building has gradually become the focus of all sectors of society. This report is based on the English to Chinese translation practice of the second chapter of Marketing Green Building Services. The original text represents today’s green building market and the rating systems for green building. This translation practice aims at enabling target readers to have an overall and objective view towards green building market, and promoting the spread of the idea of “sustainable development” among the people.The author has completed the translation project under the guidance of translation theory of Peter Newmark, and now demonstrates how to integrate theory with practice through case-study, and tentatively draws a conclusion: Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation should be regarded as the knife and fork of the cutlery, which should run neck and neck in translating. Communicative Translation makes the version fluent and plain, Semantic Translation makes the version detailed and condensed, two of which should be applied as a whole during the translation process to get a more fluent and faithful version. In addition, based on the reflection of the translation project, this report analyzes and represents the typical features and difficulties of the original text, as well as concludes the experience learned from the project and problems to be solved, hoping that this report could provide reference to other similar translating projects.
