Xie Wuliang,a confucianist in the literary world and contemporary calligraphy circles, had spectacular success in literature, philosophy, history and calligraphy. His life was free and easy and not restrained by common customs. He cared for the fate of his nation and working for revolution from beginning to end. His works continued calligraphic of late Ming and early Qing dynasty and dabbed in the study of note and stele study in Wei Jin Northern and Southern dynasties. His inherited tradition and made innovation and created an unique style characteristic. Through collecting, sorting and looking up Xie Wuliang's works, this article attempted to clarify the historical background, life experience, scholarly cultivation, academic origin and styles of him. And divide the formation and development of his calligraphy in different phases and analyze his regular script and running script that have outstanding achievement with art of composition, structures of characters and technique of writing. Through study on his work, we can have a better understanding on the development process of calligraphy in Qing dynasty, Minguo, and new China and the contribution to contemporary calligraphy.
