As an important and specific subdivision of adverb, degree adverb is widely used with high frequency and diverse usages, and is one crucial and basic content in teaching Chinese to speakers of other languages. The Chinese descents in north Thailand still remain in the stage of integrating into Thai society. Although Chinese(Yunnan dialect)still dominates local language environment, it has to be pointed out that the younger Chinese descents have been influenced profoundly by Thai language in grammar,vocabulary and many other aspects. In this thesis, we investigate the degree adverb misuses of north Thailand Chinese decent students by surveying students in ChiangRai Royal University and Jianhua Chinese High School. Furthermore, we carry out detailed analysis, classification and summary to these degree adverb misuses, and provide further suggestions to teaching of overseas Chinese students based on our research results.At first, the author designs a questionnaire according to the misuse examples collected in day-to day teaching activities. Based on the binary language background of many Chinese decent students, the questionnaire also includes questions regarding the respondent's usage of these two languages and attitude towards them, in order to reveal the underlying causes of misuses of degree adverb in their learning process of Chinese.Subsequently, this thesis classifies the misuses emerge in the everyday writing of Chinese descent students in these too schools into different types, and investigates the latent rules of such misuses.Finally, based on the rules and characters of misuses of degree adverb made by north Thailand Chinese descent students and the teaching experience of the author, this thesis provide suggestion in future teaching, in hope of benefit overseas teaching and raise a precise research direction.
