Analysis On The C-E Translation Of Nvshu Cultural Vocabulary With Particular Characteristics In Jiangyong Scenic Spot

As Chinese non-material cultural heritage, Jiangyong Nvshu is valuable in its cultural connotations, with rich cultural embedded vocabulary. Taking the local official government website material on Jiangyong scenic spot as the text for translation, this thesis tries to analyze the strategies in translating the characteristic cultural vocabulary in Nvshu scenic spot based on the functional Skopos theory.Based on the analysis of the source text, this thesis will try to select the proper translation strategies for the target reader effectively by applying the principle of vocabulary translation. First, based on the background of national tourism market and the function of Skopos theory in translation, this thesis analyzes the value of Nvshu scenic spot and Nvshu promotional text. Secondly, through the statistical analysis of the source text, I divide the vocabulary of the text into four categories, i.e., vocabulary of natural landscape, vocabulary of exotic costumes, vocabulary of cultural landscape and vocabulary of historical myth. Finally, I present six strategies on translating Nvshu characteristic vocabulary, namely translating into literal translation, literal translation with annotations, free translation, transliteration, transliteration with annotations and substitution.The most important finding of this thesis is that it is more important to highlight the tourism promotional feature than the literal translation of the Nvshu scenic spot in order to have the audience fully understand Nvshu culture when translating the cultural vocabulary. Choosing a proper translation strategy is beneficial for a more accurate translation of Nvshu scenic spot. This thesis hopes to offer possible suggestions for a more efficient way in translating Nvshu scenic spot.
