The C-E Translation Of Vocabulary With Chinese Characteristic In The Report On The Work Of The Government

Aimed at summarizing the last year's work of government and deploying the next year's, the report on the work of the government has become the window for foreign media to learn about China. With the rapid rising of China's international status in recent years, China has attracted much attention on the international stage. As a result, the report on the work of the government is becoming increasingly specific and important. It goes without saying that the task of translating the report on the work of the government is an arduous task. In the process of translating the report on the work of the government, translating vocabularies with Chinese characteristic is especially difficult with the changing of times and emerging of endless new objects, new phenomenon and new concepts; since more vocabularies with Chinese characteristics are constantly emerging. It is even more important for the translator to make clear how to translate those vocabularies precisely. Translation of the report on the work of the government is mostly limited to the national level in the past and seldom concerned with that of the provincial or municipal level. However, with the globalization of economy, foreign public activities expand to the provincial and municipal level today. Therefore, the C-E translation of provincial and municipal report of government work can not be neglected."Functional equivalence theory", put forward by Nida who is one of the main representatives of the science of translation, plays an important role in guiding and promoting the translation of the report on the work of the government. Based on Nida's "Functional equivalence theory" and abundant practice of translating Report on Government Work of Changsha, this thesis will discuss the text characteristics of vocabularies with Chinese characteristic in report of government work and explore some effective translating strategies. The political features of the report on the work of the government demand that it must be precise in choosing the target words; for the distinct features of time, it is considered that building and timely renewing term bank will be helpful; finally, because of the repeatability of word usage, the translator should pay more attention to context and then change phraseology.Based on Nida's "functional equivalence theory", this thesis discusses the features of vocabularies with Chinese characteristics in the report of government work and studies the strategies of translating them. It is expected that this paper be helpful in the study and translation of the political documents and at the same time improve the author's ability in translation.
