Abstract/Summary:
In recent years, the use of information technology in all walks of life has reached an unprecedented extent. Mobile devices and mobile Internet are rapidly changing people’s learning styles. Nowadays, on the basis of mobile devices like mobile phone and tablet PC, mobile learning becomes popular among college students because of its unique learning characteristics. At present, researches of mobile learningabroad is relatively mature while it is still in its infancy in China. There are few researches about mobile English learning. This study investigated the mobile English learning of English majors from five universities in Xi’an through questionnaire and interview and it has practical significance.This study is intended to answer the following questions as: 1.What is the overall condition of English Mobile learning in English majors? 2.Which factors could influence English majors adopting mobile learning?This study found that college students of English major generally own a kind of mobile device, and their attitude towards mobile English learning is satisfactory as a whole. But students are lack of mobile learning strategies. Their learning motivation is not learning English but passing the time. Although the current mobile English learning resources is rich, many college students have some difficulties in selecting learning resources. In mobile English learning, students mainly focus on vocabulary learning and listening. The main factors that could influence English majors’ adoption of mobile English learning are the experience of English mobile learning, self-learning and collaborative learning, learning resources, and learning environment. Among them, learning experience is the decisive factor. Based on the result of the investigation, some suggestions were proposed.
