Modal verb has been the focus and difficulty of the Chinese as a foreign language teaching. Based on the linguistic materials and data from HSK Dynamic Composition Corpus, this study takes Korean speakers and English speakers learners as the objects to analyze the learners' acquisition of the modal semantic items of “yao”. The acquisition sequence is obtained by applying Accurate Use of Relative Frequency and Implicational Scale methods as well as Chi-square test. It is found that the acquisition of the modal semantic item of “yao” follows some certain rules, while their acquisition sequences are almost the same regardless of their first language backgrounds.According to the analysis of acquisition sequence, potential factors, types of error and causes of error, this paper also provides several suggestions on teaching and learning of the modal semantic item of ‘yao'. |
