Combining Of Nihility And Reality-About Blank Language In The Books Format Design

In the book layout design, the positive and negative space have equally important role. They are interdependent and co-exist. According to the Chinese Classical Philosophy, aesthetics and artistic value of “Yin” and “Yang”, this paper will focus on the balance of the positive and negative space in layout design. This paper will provide a detail analysis among a great amount examples of book layout design, thus to explain how the negative space affects the visual and emotional experience of readers. From the exploration of the traditional Chinese art themes and modern design forms, this paper applies a research of the placement of negative space in the book layout design and bring up some principles and methods of how to leave the negative space in the layout design in both the theoretical and practical approaches with discusses the configuration relationships between the positive and negative space.The article firstly introduces the research background, purpose and meaning. As the writing logics of this article starts from the perspective of the designer, the first part that analyzes from the view of the philosophical significance of "blank" thinking mode expounds the format beauty, rhythmic beauty as well as order beauty of the blank and design elements in the book formats in order to guide the readers to have thinking flowing. Starting with the visual order angle of "empty and from the design method field, through the interpretation of the blank space in the layout, the second part studies the artistic characteristics like dispersion comparability and deconstructionism of the blank in the books format art and explores the relationship between the design elements and the combining of nihility and reality of the blank in the book format to achieve the harmony between the rational allocation of blank and visual elements. The third part ascends to the field of "white" aesthetic feeling and from the levels of entertaining eyes, entertaining minds as well as souls, analyzes the aesthetic emotion of combining of void and solid forms when the art conception of blank is applied into the layout design of books.To sum up, this paper aims to provide a practical approach to place the negative space in the book layout design, in this way to create a dynamic design outcome by using the positive and negative space. The balance of positive and negative space will form a sense of void and solid sense to provide a visual direction for readers, thus they can have a complete visual experience of forms,content of the design as well as a nice touch of how Chinese culture,philosophy and aesthetics have a big influence on layout design.
