This thesis takes decorative lines of the painted pottery in the Yangshao culture as research objects.Through the research of linear evolution,classification of symbols,semantic expression,and symbolic aesthetics etc.of the decorative lines of the painted pottery in the Yangshao culture,this thesis illustrates that the decorative lines of the painted pottery,which act as culture symbols,carried the spiritual civilization in the Yangshao culture.As the most basic elements of the painted pottery,decorative lines play an extremely important role in the rich and colorful artistic effect.For decoration design,it needs artistic creators continually research and employ innovation,and learn to express the artistic work with national characteristics by traditional artistic lines in the interconnected world.On the basis of traditional culture and aesthetic,it also hopes that the forms of lines could be developed richer and more colorful.Using historical research,logical demonstration,comparative analysis,picture analysis,case analysis and other research methods,it applies a more comprehensive analysis based on semiotic theory.The thesis is mainly on the following aspects.Firstly,it briefly introduces the basic concepts of symbol and semiology.Secondly,it presents the emergence of decorative lines of the Yangshao painted pottery,and summarizes the evolvement and development of lines in different stages.Thirdly,it combines the decorative lines of the Yangshao painted pottery with semiology,accordingly knows that the decorative lines of the painted pottery are the carriers of the Yangshao culture.Its signifier and signified refer to the decorative lines itself and conventional collective meaning of flow changing lines respectively.It represents some cognition and emotion of primitive man,which deduces two kinds of symbol classification of decorative lines of the painted pottery in the Yangshao culture: objectivity,abstraction and imagination of graphic symbols;light,power,rights and worship of symbolic symbols.Then,denotation and connotation of the decorative lines of the painted pottery in the Yangshao culture are studied,which includes basic personality language of lines and the aesthetic pursuit of combining figure from complicated to simple.Various decorative lines reflect simple pure childish mentality,conform to the nature of the concept of the universe,and devoutly original religious emotion of primitive man.Finally,with the help of symbolic aesthetics of the decorative lines of the painted pottery in the Yangshao culture,the beauty of comparison,rhythm,harmony and equilibrium in the form,and also the different beauty of coordination between the lines and modelling are analyzed.
