A Report On Translation Editing For The China Daily's Web-"Inews"

The present report is based on the author's experience of participating in editing work of translations for "Inews", a website under the administration of China Daily. The translated articles from foreign periodicals cover various fields including current politics,economy, culture and science. The essential part of this report, case analysis, provides examples to show the difficult points of translation at the levels of phrases, sentences, paragraphs and titles. The strategies in dealing with those difficult points are also suggested so that the author's reflection on the concerning issues is presented in the end.As the report demonstrates, a translator should acquire as much relevant knowledge as is needed and come to understand the original writer's attitude towards the issue in the article to be translated. As far as the expression in the target language is concerned, attention should be paid to the differences between Chinese and English expressions. To be understandable, the translation should be in line with Chinese norm of expression, avoiding an unnatural foreign tone in the translation. Readers' expectance should also be considered when translation is conducted. And finally the importance of revision should not be neglected. Any expression in the translation which may cause a gap in understanding should be proofead and corrected.
