The article is a report on translation practice. The writer compiles the report based on the translation of the 7th & 8th chapters of Translation Today: Trends and Perspectives co-written by Gunilla Anderman and Margaret Rogers. Guided by Peter Newmark’s translation theories on text classification, the writer adopts the strategy of communicative translation in rendering the information-based source text(ST) with focus on target readership, highlighting effective conveyance of message in the original works.The report consists of 5 episodes. Episode I is the preface, making an introduction of the task background, purpose and its significance. Episode II gives a brief of the author, the ST and the text type of ST. Episode III elaborates theories involved in the translation and the preparation made for translation. Episode IV is devoted to analysis of solutions to English-Chinese translation problems in terms of words, sentences, paragraphs and cultural differences. Episode V draws a conclusion of the experience gained in the course of translation practice and proposes what is yet to be solved. |
