There is a big difference between Chinese and English.Nouns are frequently used in English, while verbs are widely used in Chinese. This brings some difficulties to translation.Maritime English is a kind of EST(English for science and technology)with wide range,so it' s difficult and not easy to master.During the process of translating maritime texts, the author found that nominalization is broadly used in Maritime English.Nominalization is formal, accurate and objective,so it is widely applied in maritime English.By studying the related maritime texts and the professional maritime knowledge, the author defines nominalization structure clearly and explains its form and characteristics briefly. Then the author chooses some cases of nominalization structure, and makes deep analysis and research on the basis of functional equivalence theory. At last, the author summarizes that two translation methods can be used when translating maritime texts, including literal translation and liberal translation. In addition, liberal translation can be divided into several translation skills, including conversion, amplification, omission and division. The using of appropriate translation methods and skills can convey the original information effectively and accurately, and achieve the effect of functional equivalence. The author hopes that there is certain significance for the further translation of maritime texts through the preliminary research of the translation of nominalization structure.
