The shipping industry of contemporary China is playing an ever-increasing significant role in the world, since the navigation has been developing. The contact of China with other countries is steadily growing. With the development of the legal construction, there have promulgated more maritime laws or regulations promulgated in recent years. The improvement of the shipping industry, however, shall never be made at the expense of safety. The safety of navigation cannot be underestimated. The main tasks of the management of maritime safety include the prevention and the control of vessels, the pollution of the vessel, the safety of the port, and a series of other related items. The writer of this report notices that there are so many Chinese verbs used when reading the newly published regulations and rules. The equivalents in the English maritime documents are found to frequently be presented in nouns or nominalization. It is noticed that in the English translation of the Chinese maritime regulations and rules. The conversation of Chinese verbs into English is far from adequate, resulting in non-compliance between Chinese and English in style and respective language conventions, since nominalization shall be necessarily performed from time to solve the problems of difference in the usage of word and word-class in addition to the contents.Nominalization in English is one of the most common features for English formal style, such as in the legal terms. The most significant function for nominalization is that it avoids expressing personal feelings. As the formal type of lexical category, nominalization is more often used in official or formal texts such as government documents, and scientific technical literatures, especially in legal texts. This report is based on the theory of the "Functional Equivalence" by Eugen Nida. The aim of this research is to achieve functional equivalence on the lexical level in translating Chinese terms in maritime regulations into English and nominalization of these into English and nominalization of these terms is selected as the topic of style.
