The Application Research Of Interesting Map Design Based In Information Graphics

With the society entered into information age, information explosion and the following consequences of fatigue and anxiety when people facing these information could be revised by information graphics, as a means of communication, that can communicate rapidly and intuitively. Within information age, traditional city map cannot be able to cope with the development of city and to cater the various demands of readers,as its primary issue is text-featured of conventional printed-map with tiresome and simple function.Based on the perspective of information graphics, this thesis tried to composite multi-function, readability and identifiability by researching into the transition between information and graphics in conventional city map. Therefore,application design research was carried out by teasing out the origin and the development of information graphics related concepts and theories. Meanwhile, the interestingness featured design was certified by integrating all the related theories which included the visual elements, expressing methods, manifestation patterns and the key-points of design. Thereafter, three principles of perception, communication and aesthetics were built within the interesting map under the information graphics. The theoretical part of this thesis was ended with specific design methods of elements, colour and visual rhetoric.Finally, Hefei City Map was carried out as creative practice by analysed Hefei city, the demand of city map and its potential readers so as to verify the former theoretical research. Within the process, some visual elements of map were picked out,such as the distinctive buildings and resorts of Hefei, to relocate the conventional city map with design feature of flattening and minimalism associated with the overall structures of urban area and road system. The completed composition was exhibited with a new-design map and related derivatives. It could express the local features and could verify the feasibility of applying information graphics in map design and possibility of information graphics in other fields.
