For the majority of the English teaching activities of all phases, what dominates in our domestic schools is knowledge-based English teaching with examination-oriented model. With this kind of teaching mode, students' English knowledge and some related skills have been improved, but the overall standard of their English proficiency,especially the cultivation of the communicative competence, is not satisfactory. Limited by domestic English teaching environment,some scholars and English teachers in our country have developed a variety of English teaching methods in the light of the actual situation of Chinese students, which aims to improve students' comprehensive ability of employing English. However, we have ignored the important role of the mother tongue in the process of learning and teaching foreign language. Some linguists and English teachers believe that the mother tongue has a negative effect on foreign language acquisition, namely the negative transfer of the mother tongue, but actually the mother tongue directly affects the quality of foreign language learning. "Interpretation" is a bridge that combines the mother tongue with the foreign language acquisition. It is not only a comprehensive activity of using foreign language, but also an important means to cultivate students' communicative competence. However, the problem is that interpreting training activities in China are rarely introduced into English classes in addition to the training and cultivation of professional interpreters.Interpreting is a kind of communicative activity which requires a high demand for extemporaneousness. Only with good qualities of listening, speaking, reading, writing,memory, perception and thinking can a man be a qualified interpreter. In recent years,high demand for professional interpreters becomes more intense, and the cultivation of interpreters is also a process to train the comprehensive ability of foreign language.Interpreting training combined with English teaching has attracted more and more scholars' and teachers' attention, but the problem is that the use of interpreting training in English teaching has not been popularized.It is the author's hope that this thesis can be of referential value and great help to the current interpretation research and training activities. The author also hopes that this study will construct a new teaching mode via interpreting training to improve students'comprehensive ability of using English and get rid of being fettered by the chalk and talk teaching mode.This thesis is composed of three parts altogether:The first part is an introduction, which mainly describes the research background,questions, purpose, significance and methods of the study.The second part is the main body, which is deployed with three chapters.The first chapter is the theoretical foundation, which gives an overall introduction to the related theories from three aspects: the connotation of interpretation training, the studies on interpreting teaching and the theoretical basis of combining interpreting training with English teaching. First of all, the basic concepts of interpretation are mentioned, including the definition and the forms of interpretation. Next, the author summarizes the connotation of interpreting training. Then the studies on interpreting teaching are also involved in this chapter. In the end, the author elaborates the related theories of applying interpreting training to English teaching.The second chapter is about the enlightenment of interpreting training to English teaching. This chapter is divided into three aspects. The first aspect is the feasibility of combining interpreting training with English teaching, which is deployed from students'learning needs, regular pattern of foreign language learning and the teaching goals of all-round education. The second aspect is the methods of interpreting training in English teaching, and in this section the interpreting training methods of shadowing, sight interpreting, gist-retelling, paraphrasing and public-speaking are discussed. The third aspect mainly talks about the design of combining interpreting training with English teaching. The author has designed a new teaching mode respectively through combining interpreting training with the teaching of English listening, speaking, reading, culture as well as the assistance of the Internet and multimedia devices.The third chapter talks about the implications of interpreting training to English teaching, including the problems to be solved in the field of this study, the prospects in the future and the suggestions on the improvement of teachers' ability, the innovation of the teaching methods and the selection of the teaching materials.The third part of this thesis comes to a conclusion, which summarizes the proposition of combining interpreting training with English teaching. The author also hopes that this thesis will be of significant guidance to the empirical research of the subject in the next phase.
