Mythology of a people is a reflection of the collective sub-consciousness of the whole people, and the origin of the people's philosophy, religion, and literature. The study of mythology in China started from the 1930s,but there was a lack of comparative study of Chinese and Greek mythology.A Comparative Study of Chinese and Greek Mythology is a systematic comparative study, making comparison between Chinese and Greek mythology from such perspectives as social values, moral standards, and attitudes towards love and marriage. The systematic comparative study helps find out the very root of the personalities of Eastern and Western people as well as the origin of cultural and economic differences. This report is based on the translation of A Comparative Study of Chinese and Greek Mythology. The author gives introduction to academic translation and project significance, makes preparation like text analysis, translation theory study as well as tools preparation, and discusses problems encountered in translation and the solutions.Problems can be summarized into three levels. At the level of lexis, the author discusses diction, conversion of word class, and the translation of culture-loaded words. At the level of sentence, division, combination, and restructuring are illustrated. And at the level of text, the author looks into the possibility of establishing coherence by cohesive devices and explores methods of adding and changing conjunctive words to present the logic. The report uses a combination of Communicative Translation and Semantic Translation proposed by Newmark in academic translation. It explores the methods and presents the general principle of academic translation in compliance with the features of academic works, and enriches the case study of academic translation.
