A Report On The Translation Of Comparative Mythology In China-Reflections And Explorations (Chapter 10)

The source text of this translation report is chosen from Chapter 10 of the book,titled Comparative Mythology in China—Reflections and Explorations(《比较神话学在中国——反思与开拓》).Published by Social Sciences Academic Press in 2016,the book is coauthored by Ye Shuxian and Tan Jia,both of whom are experts in comparative mythology.This book mainly introduces related researches and developing history of comparative mythology in China.According to Reiss’s text typology theory,this source text mainly belongs to the informative text.Therefore,the translator uses this theory to guide the translation process,aiming at completely conveying the information of the source text to readers.This translation report is composed of 5 chapters.The first chapter describes the background and significance of the translation project and the structure of this report.The second chapter serves an introduction to the contents of the book,related information of the two authors,as well as lexical and syntactic characteristics of the source text.The third chapter mainly introduces Reiss’ s text typology theory and its application in this project.Under the guidance of this theory,the author of this project attaches importance to how to be faithful to the target text.In the fourth chapter,the translator analyzes some distinctive difficulties in the translating process,such as four-character expressions,Chinese paratactic sentences and sentences with no subjects,and their corresponding solutions.The last chapter is the conclusion which summarizes experience the author has gained in this process and problems to be solved in the future.
