This thesis is based on the translation practice report of Greek and Roman Mythology compiled by American author Tatlock,J.M.As the basis of Western culture,Greek and Roman mythology not only conveys the traditional values of the West, but also is a crucial method for us to understand Western culture. With the development of society, the cultural and economic exchanges between China and the Western countries are getting closer and closer,so it is necessary to fully understand the Greek and Roman Mythology which is regarded as the basis of the Western culture.Under the guidance of the skopos theory,a variety of translation strategies and skills have been applied to solve specific problems which occur during the translation project. With the help of skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule, the translator carries out detailed analysis of skills at lexical level, syntactic level and textual level. At lexical level, with the help of translation skills such as annotation, amplification and conversion, the translator provides target readers with some background knowledge which makes contributions to readers' understanding and readability and acceptability of the target text. And this is in line with the skopos rule and coherence rule of skopos theory. At syntactic level,by use of translation skills like reorganizing, division and combination, the translator tries to keep the target text consistent with the source text on the basis of accurate expression, which conforms to skopos rule and fidelity rule of skopos theory. At textual level,by using reverse translation and extension, the translator tries to balance differences between English and Chinese expressing habits and accurately deliver coherent information in the source text to meet the requirement of inter-coherence,which is in accordance with fidelity rule of skopos theory.
