The original text in this translation report is from the chapter 20 of Greek Mythology: A Traveller's Guide from Mount Olympus to Troy written by David Stuttard.Greek Mythology, which breeds the western civilization, differs from that of Chinese mythology. The gods in Greek Mythology bears slight moral personalities.Although many merits can be found, they are not flawless and share all the same shortcomings with human-beings.The selected chapter in this report depicts the relics of the Troy City and the Mythology behind it,which presents the cause and effect of the Trojan War,and during this process how the entangled love and hate between the gods interact with the two country,Greek and Troy.In this report, the author analyzes the source text according to Text Typologies proposed by Katharina Reiss, and believes that the selected text belongs to informative and expressive texts. In addition to that, under the guidance of Skopos Theory proposed by Hans Vermeer, the author considers the target text as an handbook for traveling around the cultural sites about Greek Mythology. As to its social effect and function, the text is to make the audience in the target environment enjoy the stories. In light of this, bearing Skopos Theory in mind, the translator strives to to play the translator's subjectivity, mainly adopting translation techniques such as conversion, division and combination etc.,and endeavors to make the translation more attractive and refined in language to the target readers. This is also the biggest difficulty in the translation process of this chapter, which to break through the limitation of the source text and the conception of “language equivalence” and pay attention to the social effects of the translation. At the end of the report, the translator summarizes the lessons learned in the project for more experience in translating hybrid texts.
