A Report On C-E Translation Of The Popular Reader On History And Culture Of Dingzhou(Chapters 3-4)

Globalization has enhanced frequent economic and cultural exchanges among different countries,regions and nations.As a bridge of cultural exchanges,translation not only brings foreign culture to China,but also plays an important role in advertising Chinese culture.Since the 1980s,more and more scholars have begun to regard culture as a significant element in the translation process.The cultural translation view was formed when people started to see translation from the perspective of culture.Susan Bassnett's cultural translation view has a pivotal position in the translation studies,she thinks that translation needs to achieve the cultural functional equivalence between the source text and the version instead of a simple transformation between two different languages.This theory has an instructive impact in the cultural translation field.This report is accomplished on the basis of the C-E translation of the third and fourth chapters of the book The Popular Reader on History and Culture of Dingzhou.The content of this report includes the description of the translation task,translation process,case analysis and a conclusion.Under the guidance of Susan Bassnett's cultural translation view,the report focuses the different translation strategies applied on the translated text.The information in the source text reflects a city's ancient and unique culture.The author analyzes the cultural composition in the source text,applies the literal translation,foreignization,amplification and omission as the main strategies to enhance the intelligibility of the translation in order to maximize the target readers' cultural experience.This translation practice illustrates that the combination of various translation strategies is better able to bear the responsibility of cultural exchanges.The author sincerely hopes this translation report will be conducive to promoting the publicity of history and culture of her hometown.
