The source text is History and Reconciliation,a volume of papers about "History"and "Reconciliation" from different aspects published by University of Tokyo Press in the year of 2011.Different people from different countries have different understandings toward "History" and "Reconciliation" due to their different backgrounds.This volume of papers not only discussed about "History" and"Reconciliation" between Japan and England,Japan and Korea,Japan and China,but also studied "History" and "Reconciliation" between France and Germany,Germany and Poland,France and Algeria,England and Ireland.Through comparison,it can help us know better about "History" and "Reconciliation" between different countries from a wider aspect.This report is about the translation of the third part of this book.The writer thinks translators should translate according to their purposes.They can't only use one strategy to cover all translations,thus there is a need for them to choose appropriate strategy on different occasions.And it should be guided by translation purposes.Therefore,the writer chose Skopos theory as a guide.Skopos theory regards translation as an activity with a purpose.Translators can choose different strategies due to different purposes.This report refers to Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation raised by Peter Newmark.When it comes to personal ideas and the unique feature of source text,Semantic Translation is recommended.When it comes to objective description,Communicative Translation is recommended.The writer finds it will be most useful by jointly using these two tneories.This report contains five parts.First is introduction which includes the significance of this translation practice,the reason why the writer chose Skopos theory,and the main content of this report.The second part is translation process.It mainly discussed about the subjectivity of the translator,the preparation work before translation and detailed translation process.The third part is about translation theory.Skopos theory,Semantic Translation and Communicative Translation.The fourth part is the analysis of some examples to better explain theories.The last part is conclusion,which indicates the ideas and problems in this time's practice and future direction to improve the translation skills.
