The formation and development of a language is deeply influenced by its unique historical tradition, culture, customs and habit;therefore different languages vary greatly in terms of lexical meaning, grammatical structure, expression and other aspects. The creation of a text depends on the specific language environment,or the context, making it anything but a simple pile-up of vocabulary. For this reason,in the process of language transformation,a correct understanding of the meaning and usage of a word according to the specific context becomes particularly important.Polysemy is a common phenomenon in English. In the practice of translation, the author found that even if a word appears in the same discourse several times,in most cases the choice of words in translation should be made after a comprehensive consideration of the particular context. If the translator simply parrots the conceptual meaning or dictionary explanation of a word, the translation too often manifest itself as an ambiguous and incomprehensible one, which highlights the importance of research on translating the same words differently.By adopting a quantitative research method and through a close examination of the classification of context as well as how it affects the meaning and translation of a word, this paper is designed to analyze the phenomenon of translating the same words differently under the constraint of different contextual factors. On the basis of previous research achievements on context, the author summarizes the strategies of translating the same words differently from three aspects:linguistic context, situational context and cultural context,so as to provide a possible approach for the study of translation of polysemy.
