Study On Reduplication Of Shanxi Dialect

Reduplication acts as an important grammar in Shanxi dialect.This paper focuses on the reduplication in Shanxi dialect from the four aspects of distribution characteristics,semantics feature,grammatical function,word-formations and grammatical reduplication.The North,Middle,West,East-South and South region of Shanxi have been comprehensively studied.Based on their common features,their differences have been highlighted.This research aims to provide a relatively comprehensive and objective picture of the reduplication in Shanxi province.There are six chapters.The introduction seeks to provide the information of definition of reduplication,current research,the different regions of Shanxi dialect,source of utterance materials and the style of dialect.It mainly makes a detailed description about the reduplicative nouns,verbs,adjectives,adverbs,numerals and other reduplicative words from the chapter one to the chapter six.During listing regional dialect reduplicative phenomenon,I compare and find out the similarities and differences between them.This paper focuses on the reduplication of five areas in Shanxi from the four aspects of distribution characteristics,semantics feature,grammatical function,word-formations and grammatical reduplication.Regarding the distribution characteristics,this paper first provides examples of typical reduplication in five regions,then classifications are made accordingly.Efforts have been made to make the classification as comprehensive as possible.This is followed by the analysis of these characteristics,which in order to spot the major similarities and small differences.Regarding the semantics features,a full picture of the meaning of the reduplications has been provided.Different forms representing the same meaning have been listed.Grammatical functions mainly include discussion of the roles reduplications play in constituting sentences.Other analysis includes the premisses of reduplication refinement which depends on the exact words.Regarding the word formations and configurations,it needs to be pointed out that the reduplicative nouns,adverbs and numerals have both word-formations and grammatical reduplication while the reduplicative verbs,adjectives,quantifiers,pronouns and echoics have only grammatical reduplication.The conclusion summaries the overall feature of Shanxi dialect from the macroscopic perspective.Meanwhile limitations and suggestions for further research have been provided.
