The New Wu School of Painting,after the 1960s New Jinling Painting School of Jiangsu,is a new naturally developed Chinese painting school in Jiangsu Province since 1980s.It is an inheritor of the Wu School of Painting on the level of painting context,yet the so called group of painters make continuous innovations in art conceptions,painting contexts,themes and styles,which earned them the name of the New Wu School of Painting.The main force of the school consists of the painters of Suzhou Traditional Chinese Painting Studio.The studio has a number of outstanding painters and influential pieces of works,which is characterized by clear cultural context inheritance,consistency in art conceptions and aesthetic and professionally competitive leaders.Generally,the New Wu School of Painting shows a strong sense in traditional culture complex and cultural self-awareness.Their avocations of traditional elegant interests and modern aesthetic context schematically integrated to form a distinctive but harmonious scene of the New Wu School of Painting.The cultural features and painting context of the New Wu School of Painting is mainly expressed with strong brush and inks,painting graphology,cultural diversity,inclusiveness and originality.The school constantly changes its painting context schema during development,which is closely linked to the continuation of the Wu School of Painting.In order to establish the New Wu School of Painting,which is profound in cultural deposits and distinctive in regional features,it is of practical and historical significance to fully understand the property of the painting styles in Suzhou area,to analyze the language and development of painting language in Suzhou area,to study the development the area's culture and economy,to further explore the construction and positioning of the school's expressional language by clearing and defining its aesthetic standards and evaluation criterion.
