Strategies For Chinese Idioms Interpretation From The Perspective Of The Interpretive Theory

Due to the global development, China collaborates increasingly with other nations and regions of the world in varied spheres. And on such international occasions, Chinese leaders play an important role in making relevant speeches which need the help of the interpreters as the bridge. As a result, the interpreters are significantly needed. In terms of the interpretation, Chinese idioms are commonly regarded as hard nut to crack, due to their distinct features and rich Chinese cultural connotation.The author wrote this thesis to induce the interpreting strategies that can hopefully help to improve the interpreting skills and inspire thoughts through analyzing the interpreting data of the state leaders' speeches. The interpreting data was drawn from the state leaders'political speeches for the analysis. Firstly, the thesis brings forth a review of the interpretive theory, even its foundation, development, and essential content. Secondly, it is the analysis of the employment of idioms in the state leaders' speeches which includes the definition of the idiom, the category and the characters of idioms used in the state leaders' speeches. After all these statements, it comes to the core of the thesis:the strategies of the Chinese Idioms Interpretation under Interpretive Theory. In this part, three interpreting quality evaluating standards are introduced:1. It shows a right understanding and full meaning expression.2. It follows the language norms of the target language.3. It gives a smooth flow and natural expression. In accordance to these standards, the strategies of Chinese Idioms Interpretation under the Interpretive Theory with the analysis on data of idioms interpretation are induced. There are five strategies:sentence transformation, explanatory interpreting, cultural connotation interpreting, information supplement and information cutting. These strategies are all extracted from the state leaders' speeches interpreting examples, and might provide a hint for other interpreters to improve their interpreting skills and quality. Notwithstanding, there are still imperfections. In order to make up for the deficiency and shortcomings in the research, some suggestions are provided in the end for the future research:1. Abundant and plenteous data on the interpretive theory is needed to be collected and studied so that a thorough understanding and flexible employment on the interpreting theory can be obtained.2. Interpreting analysis data on a big scale and with varied categories should be searched and grasped to get comprehensive and accurate results.
