China-ASEAN Expo has been successfully held for 11 times, with its rising international status, this session has become the focus of many international media "news event." Since the speech interpretation of China’s leaders on China-ASEAN Expo plays a significant role in establishing a good international image of China, how to do a good job in interpretation becomes more and more important. Because of the immediacy of interpreting, interpreters themselves are facing huge pressure. However, due to unique national conditions and culture of China and the differences between Chinese and English languages, it is inevitable to meet a lot of Chinese-specific vocabularies, idioms and non-subject sentences, and these words and non-subject sentences are difficult to be readily accepted or understood from both foreign cultural and political point of view. Thus it is also the difficulties that interpreters have to tackle in the interpreting scene.This thesis is a study on interpreting speeches of Chinese leaders under the guidance of Interpretive Theory. Its aim is to study the features and difficulties of Chinese-specific vocabularies, idioms and non-subject sentences in the speech interpretation of China’s leaders on China-ASEAN Expo and to make relative strategies. In this way, the writer hopes to help interpreters freely deal with these difficulties and play a better role of working as a bridge in communication so as to improve the quality of interpretation.
