Discuss The Role Of Government Playing In Protection And Development Of The Grand Canal At Yangzhou

Since the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal has been included in UNESCO's World Cultural Heritage List,great opportunities have been brought to the development of tourism of the Grand Canal and the cities along it.These years,Yangzhou has made good progress in the development,protection and utilization of canal resources,while the city is still confronting some problems such as a not well-known reputation for canal tourism,not clear enough development programs for canal industry,flawed management mechanisms for resource development and utilization,etc.This study summarized the successful experiences and behavioral pattern of government on accelerating the development of urban tourism and canal tourism in several famous cities,civil or foreign,then explored the history,current situation and existing problems in the development and utilization of Yangzhou Canal,finally raised some constructive countermeasures and advice for improving the future industrial development.The main results of this study includes:? This study collected and stated the related theories on government action and canal city,summarized the positive effect of government action on promoting tourism through case analysis of Tibet,South Jiangsu Province and Guangzhou city,thus theoretically and practically demonstrated the essentiality of government action in the development of tourism industry.?The study analyzed the history,current status and government actions in Yangzhou Canal development,summarized the government action patterns and characteristics of Yangzhou city in adrministrative restructuring,top design,promoting regional strategic cooperation,guiding the development of canal industries,tourism promotion,and the construction of public tourist service system.? The study pointed out that some problems of developing thoughts,management methods and technical details still existed in the government-guided development and utilization of canal resources.These problems included the lack of program and guidance,weak public services and market supervision,failed tourist product design,myopic attitude in resource development,the lack of publicity and the wrong means of advertising.? Based on case analysis of the protection and development of cultural and landscape resources in several famous canal tourist cities,the successful experiences and government action patterns in integrated protection and development of cultural heritage,urban landscape and tourist facility construction,and sustainable development and construction of tourism,were summarized.?The study raised countermeasures and advice from five aspects including improving cultural connotation of canal tourism,integrating resources and optimizing the allocation,promoting sustainable development of canal,upgrading infrastructure and related tourist facility and enhancing the publicity.Given all that,the protection,utilization and development of Yangzhou Canal were deeply researched from the aspects of government actions and administration in this study,theoretically and practically.The research results,especially the countermeasures and advice raised in the study,would be valuable and significant for the development of tourism of Yangzhou Canal.
