The film has become a kind of media which develops more rapidly and has a bigger impact, with the gradual maturity and stability of Chinese film market since 1990s.According to the relations and the creation practice of the different period of Chinese film director community, the film director in mainland China,is divided into the first generation to the sixth generation. The alternating and subversion of"generation" has certain continuity,it's not only a kind of improved modifications in idea from the post generation of director to the former ones, but also an inevitable result of China's modernization process. The smooth transition from the first to the fifth generation of directors, due to their continued common theme-enlightenment,they put the conflict between civilization and ignorance as a very important motif in their movies. However, from the beginning of the "sixth generation" directors, their focus is turning to the present development of cities in China and the characters in the modernization process.Social transformation in the 90s has declared the modernization of Chinese society on political environment and economic environment. At the same time, the task of the enlightenment containing in the film didn't get over but temporarily come to an end. This is not only a kind of intellectuals consciously, but also the result of common requirements by the social ideological trend. That is to say,the creation of the sixth generation directors consciously correspond to China's current social ideological trend. After the fifth generation directors, all the new generation of directors in the environment of current Chinese modernization should be attributed to the category of the sixth generation, they have made a variety of films. However, these works of the"sixth generation" directors lack common style and aesthetic pursuit, the so-called"sixth generation" just exists in time sense, not as a genre. However,we should continue to keep the generational divide for Chinese film director to confirm the inheritance and innovation of Chinese film, and stressed that the pace of aesthetic pursuit of Chinese film has never stopped. Therefore, this article will define the extension of the sixth generation directors,to make the attribute of "generations" more clear and definite. The film can be seen as a kind of imaginative reconstruction of social reality by directors.Interpreting the common mode of narrative-"looking for and losing" in the movie, based on the specific scope of the "sixth generation" directors,We will understand the changes in people's life brought by the times atmosphere, social environment and cultural context changes. The paper will redefine the sixth generation directors, mainly viewed from the following two point of view:the inter-generational inheritance of Chinese film director and the current environmental of the development of Chinese film.Inquiring the narrative prototype of narrative mode-"looking for and losing",and finding the social and cultural reasons of the narrative pattern further.I will analyze the application of this narrative mode at the works of Wang Xiaoshuai's films,by means of film close reading.Meanwhile,I will also analyze representative works of other"sixth generation" directors appropriately, such as Guan Hu,Lu Xuechang,Jia Zhangke,Zhang Yuan, and Lu Chuan,in order to confirm the profound influence of the modernization of Chinese social environment on the concept of values and shooting style of the "sixth generation" directors, and the enrichment of material and spiritual life of their character,as well as their confusion, anxiety and confusion under the lens.
