This translation report was excerpted from the book The World is Flat, which led us to America on the outlook of American economists. As the most developed and leading country in the world, how America cope with the new world situation? And what is China’s role we’ve played in the global planarization as the largest developing country? How we developing ourselves and what effect we’ve brought to the world? All these matters are required to be acknowledged for our new generations. On this basis, author introduced the whole process of this translation report, analyzed difficulties during translating and put forward resolves. This report consists of five parts: the description of the source text; the preparation before translation; the translation theories; the analyses of the translation examples(case studies) and the conclusion of this translation practice. In the first part, the author introduced the main contents of the translation material. Author summarizes the book The World is Flat and the excerpted part in the first chapter. The translation preparation part refers to the author’s reading and analysis of the source text and the choices of assistive translation tools. The translation theory part mainly introduces the guiding theory of this report——Skopostheory, analyzing the purpose of choosing this theory during the translating. Author also introduces some basic contents of Skopostheory, pointing out positive guiding role in the translation practice. The analyses of the examples are the core part of this translation report. The author discussed the difficult points encountered in the translation practice in three aspects: skopos rule, coherence rule, and loyalty. The author used some translation skills in the analyzing process, such as the extension of the meaning of the words, the method of adding, the decomposition of long sentences and integration of short sentences. The last part is the summary of the translation report, describing the author’s experiences gained in this translation practice, and the author’s suggestions to MTI students.
