Study On The Influence Of Brecht’s "Alienation" Theory On Kurt Weill’s Creation Of "The Threepenny Opera" | | Posted on:2018-01-28 | Degree:Master | Type:Thesis | | Country:China | Candidate:N Pei | Full Text:PDF | | GTID:2335330512992399 | Subject:School of music and dance | | Abstract/Summary: | PDF Full Text Request | | “The Threepenny Opera”(Die Dreigroschenoper)is a classic work created by the outstanding German composter Kurt Weill(1900-1950)and the theatre philosopher Bertolt Brecht(1898-1956)in the first half of the twentieth Century.“The Threepenny Opera” is Brecht’s “An epic drama attempt”.Through the study of opera,we have a new understanding of drama and music.Brecht gave the question and challenge to Aristotle drama which continued two thousand years,and set up “The arrative drama ”(Narrative drama)with the “Alienation”(Verfremdung)as the core,which avoided putting the masses in the plot and kept the audience and the plot with distance,highlighting the ability of rational thinking.This paper takes how Brecht’s“Alienation” theory to manifest in the script and music of “The Threepenny Opera”as the main object of study,thus to have a thorough analysis and understanding about“The Threepenny Opera”.In order to understand the concept of Brecht’s drama and Weill’s influence on the music creation of “The Threepenny Opera”,this article will discuss it from the following four chapters.The first chapter is the introduction,which mainly elaborates the significance of the paper from the research motivation,and summarizes the present situation research status at home and abroad and the methods used in the research.The second chapter is the background of the work,in which we can get the brief introduction from the background of the works,the birth process of the work and the life of Brecht and Weill.The third chapter is Brecht’s “Alienation”theory.Firstly,we distinguish Brecht’s “Narrative drama" and “Dramatic drama”;the second part is the concept and definition of “Alienation”;at lost is how to perform “Alienation”in the drama level.The fourth chapter is the “Alienation” effect in the opera.We elaborated “Alienation effect” in detail from the five aspects,which are respectively emotional isolation,music sharp satire and social criticism,independent musical structure,the different nature of music theme and the diversified “Alienation”performance.Based on the deep research of “The Threepenny Opera”,we analyzed the“Alienation” theory from a special research perspective,explored the aesthetic,recreational and educational functions of “The Threepenny Opera”,and deepened the understanding of the composer’s musical ideas. | | Keywords/Search Tags: | Kurt Weir, Bertolt Brecht, “The Threepenny Opera”, music, “Alienation”theory | PDF Full Text Request | Related items |
