Hou Wailu's Study On The Patriarchal Clan System Of Chinese Ancient Society

Hou Wailu is the famous Chinese Marxist historian,historian of thought and educator,he had abundant works in his life and made outstanding and creative contributions in the field of Chinese social history and intellectual history,he is the foregoer of the localization of Marxism in China.Hou Wailu started with the translation of Capital,and successfully combined general theory of Marxism and the actual development of Chinese ancient history,especially under the direction of Marxist theory,and dug deeply into the characters of patriarchal clan system of Chinese ancient society,he thought that in the ancient society,because of the 'earliness' of civilization path,the kindred clan organizations had influenced the process of Chinese civilization deeply,which is reflected in the aspect of the late development of national thought,the patriarchal clan system of former emperors' back-to-the-ancients ideology and ideal personality;because of the contradiction of 'the backward things dragging emerging things',the community organizations of patriarchal clan system made only superficial changes and continued to exist for a long time in the medieval feudal society,which influenced the production and life style,superstructure,peasant revolt and moral principles and thoughts of medieval feudal society deeply.It can be said that the study on patriarchal clan system of Chinese ancient society always runs through Hou Wailu's study on Chinese social history and intellectual history,it is even the premise and foundation of exploring the special law of the development of Chinese ancient society by using the basic theory of Marxism.At the same time,in the long-term practice process of Marxist historiography,Hou Wailu also formed an unique understanding of the patriarchal clan system of Chinese ancient society and academic method,which had an important and profound and lasting influence on his academic life.In the view of this situation,Hou Wailu tries to use the patriarchal clan system as the starting point in the paper,by summarizing and analyzing Hou Wailu's research contents of patriarchal clan system of Chinese ancient society to understand Hou Wailu and his academic thought from a new perspective and make contribution to improve Hou Wailu and his study on academic thought.
