A Report On Translating This Brave New World:India,China And The United States (Part ?,Chapter 6-8)

With the development of Asian economy,the combined strength of North America and Europe might be surpassed by Asia in economic might,population size,and military spending aspects.The United States who plays a pivotal role in international relations has always been an economic,political,military power.While China and India,the two developing countries,are sure to have a huge impact on all aspects of the world through continuous reformations and developments.The globe is stepping into a new world,and a new international order is gradually established.The development of the relationships among China,India and the United States has aroused a great concern in the field of sociology at home and abroad.The source text of this translation project is selected from the chapter 6 to 8 of the second part of Anja Manuel's book This Brave New World:India,China and the United States(Anja Manuel,2016).The main content of this part is the construction of the new word,which analyzes some problems exist currently in the processes of India's and China' rises,and the solutions the two countries used to get rid of these problems,so as to the help the United States can offer are also discussed in this part.In the translation practice,guided by Peter Newmark's communicative translation theory and oriented by the principle that the content and language of the translation should be fully accepted by readers,the translator discusses the difficulties in the translation process and the corresponding treatment methods with a reproduction of the main idea of the text;separation,reorganization,addition,conversion and other methods are applied to make the translation faithful,fluent and natural.Through this translation practice,the translator hope to provide reference materials for the literature translation in sociological aspect.The report is composed of four parts.The first part is the introduction of the translation project,including the project background,the translation theory and the significance of the project.The second part provides the introduction of the original text,including the background,content,style and features of the text.The third part gives the analysis of the translation process,including the preparation process and difficulties,as well as the translation methods and strategies used in the translation.The fourth part clarifies the enlightenment and lessons learned in the project,and simultaneously mentions the aspects which needs polishing.
