This is an English-Chinese translation report based on Chapter 17 of the book: Wolves and the Wolf Myth in American Literature.There is not any translated version of the source text till now,after searching on CNKI,Baidu,Google and other resources from the Internet.This chapter discusses the significance of the wolf stories to the real world from the perspective of literary criticism and ecocriticism.It aims to popularize literary knowledge and promote the development of literary study.This is a piece of academic writing which belongs to a typical informative text.So the language of the translation should be accurate,concise and fluent.Meanwhile,according to Nida's functional equivalence theory,it mainly discusses on the effect of translation during the process of the source language into the target language.Besides translation is not rigid corresponding of the text on the surface but to achieve functional equivalence between two languages.This is the theoretical basis of the translation task.In order to pursue a readable translation,some kinds of translation skills such as adding notes,conversion,free translation and so on are applied to solve the problems in the translation process.With the help of the Internet and dictionaries and after adequate pre-translation preparation,the author carefully translates the material and modifies the translation text again and again until it gets finalized.This report is made up of four parts,i.e.task description,translation theory,translation process and conclusion.The report first presents the source of the material as well as the reasons to choose it,and then summarizes the process of this translation.As to the final translation text,this report selects typical cases to analyze the difficulties of the translation process and its solutions from three aspects: morphology,syntax and culture.Finally,the conclusion part summarizes this practice,puts up with the unsolved problems during practice and underlines translators' abilities with bilingual translation and document retrieval.Through this translation,the author has a further understanding of the academic translation and practices her translation skills.
