"Ghostly Writing" In LiBihua's Fictions

Li Bihua is one rare distinguished writer in Hong Kong's contemporary literary arena.Her fictions,bearing such features as distinctiveness,exaggeration and weirdness all in one,often tell the stories related to ghosts and thus carry strong ghostly colors.Taking this “ghostly writing” as the research point,this thesis attempts to explore and examine the ghost images,ghost narrative methods as well as the causes of this “ghostly writing” in Li Bihua's fictions.The thesis will mainly take the research method of close reading and apply the narrative theories to study the ghost images and ghost narrative methods in the fictions by Li Bihua.Apart from its introduction and conclusion,the thesis is divided into three chapters:In the first chapter,the author mainly analyzes the ghost images in Li Bihua's fictions.Li's characterization of the ghost images as well as her distinctive interpretations over love and human nature is examined here from the two aspects of ghost forms and ghost spirit.The second chapter mainly studies Li Bihua's unique ghost narrative methods in four aspects: ghost narrative modes,ghost narrative points of view,ghost narrative time and ghost narrative discourse.And the third chapter explores the cultural origins of Li Bihua's ghost fictions.The Chinese classical culture,especially the ghost culture has been the cultural origins of the ghost creation of Li Bihua,who has also been influenced by the ghost creations by other contemporary writers;(at the same time,)Hong Kong's special culture and its political and historical environment have constituted the main contents of Li's fictions.
