The Origin Of Bai Yun Sect And The Publishing Of Puningzang

In the age of Song and Yuan dynasties,The Bai Yun Sect has experienced a series of stages,including creation,prosperity and die out.Originally,it was founded by Buddhist monks,because of its dominant ideas derived from the traditional Buddhist theory,Bai Yun Sect was regarded as a branch of buddhism.However,Bai Yun Sect gradually showing some characteristics of folk religion when it disseminating in Western Zhejiang area.Up to the middle stage of Yuan Dynasty,Bai Yun Sect has developed prosperously.Various activities were organized by believers in the folk has attracted official attention,and led to a series of ban and repeal activities to Bai Yun Sect.At that time,the Tripitaka of the Southern Song Dynasty was ruined by the war.Daoan,the abbo of Nanshan Pu Ning temple where is the birthplace of Bai Yun Sect,he went north to capital to apply for re-publication the Puningzang which was the most important tripitaka in Yuan dynasty.This paper has divided into three chapters.The first chapter mainly discusses the creation of Bai Yun Sect,collecting related historical materials,describe the life stories of the founder of Bai Yun Sect,Kong Qingjue.Explaining the relationship between Bai Yun faith and Huayan School,meanwhile,it analyzed the two article of Kong Qingjue which has come down to us.From this we can know about Kong’s religious thoughts.The second chapter introduced the Puningzang and Pu Ning temple,it includes Puuningzang’s catalog,history,time,spread and reservation.Besides,it explained the relationship between Puningzang and Tangut Tripitaka.Lastly,the achievement of Field works——the investigation of Nanshan Cliff stone is also recorded.The last chapter can be divided into two parts,history and ancestry.On the basis of previous studies,this paper makes a summary and exploration.The new questions raised in this paper are still worth discussing again.For instance,the relationship between the Pu Ning temple and the Nanshan Cliff stone,between Bai Yun Sect and the Western Xia regime,as well as social circulating mode and spread range of Bai Yun Sect.It’s a complex social phenomenon,there is room fordiscovery and research.
