Objective:In order to compare Chinese undergraduate students'empathetic characteristics with American ones.Method:Using Basic Empathy Scale?Interpersonal Reactivity Index and ESPT for the purpose of measuring their empathetic traits, sixty Chinese undergraduates and sixty-two American undergraduates are selected.Result:In constructed test,in the aspect of cognitive empathy,American undergraduates'scores are significant higher than Chinese undergraduates'in Basic Empathy Scale(t = 3.65,p<0.05);Americans undergraduates'scores are significant higher than Chinese undergraduates'as for the perspective taking scale in Interpersonal Reactivity Index(t =2.495,p<0.05);in semi-constructed projective test, there is a significant different between Chinese undergraduates and Americans undergraduates when facing no biased cultural pictures(t=3.672,p<0.001);Chinese undergraduate students' empathetic scores are significantly higher than American participants. The conclusion as follows:(1)In constructed test,American undergraduates' cognitive empathy scores are significantly higher than Chinese undergraduates';(2)In semi-constructed test,Chinese undergraduates'empathetic scores are significantly higher than American undergraduates' empathetic scores in no biased cultural pictures, which is suggesting that Chinese undergraduates' empathetic scores are higher than Americans undergraduates;(3)The tools could impact the empathetic results in cross-cultural study.
