The English text chosen for this translation practice is selected from Red Feminism: The Development of American Communism and Women's Liberation by Kate Weigand,a famous American left-wing writer.The book consists of seven chapters,and its second chapter was chosen as the translation material in this report.In this chapter,there are formal and rigorous language,typical sentence structures and many feminist terms etc,which gives more difficulties during translation while on the other hand provides opportunities for the translator(the author of this paper)to think about and find out proper means and strategies to solve these problems.In addition,the translation of this book will be helpful for the domestic readers who are interested in the relationship between American communism and the development of women's liberation movement.Generally,the present author adopts faithfulness and fluency as the translation standards and attempts to employ all kinds of translation theories and strategies flexibly to offer a Chinese version which could be faithful,fluent and readable.This report consists of the following four sections:The first section describes the translation task,involving the source of the translation,the content and the features of the text,Kate Weigand and the significance of choosing the chapter to translate.The second section describes the process of the whole translation,which is made up of the pre-translation preparation,the translation procedure and the after-translation revision.In the preparation,the author analyzes the style,language features etc.of the original work.Meanwhile,the author chooses proper translation tools,translation methods and techniques.The author revises the translation version again and again to guarantee the quality of the translation.In the third section,considering the the original text style,the author analyzessome typical translation cases,according to the translation standard of faithfulness and fluency.Different types of difficulties and obstructions have been categorized and analyzed,which include vocabularies,syntax,names of organizations,and cultural knowledge etc,so as to finding some patterns or solutions which may be of some reference value for the future translation of similar genre or structure.In the fourth section,the author discusses what she has learned and lessons from this translation practice,and summarizes what could still be improved of the translation.
