This report is based on excerpts from Adventure Tourism:Meaning,Experience and Learning written by Peter Varley,Steve Taylor and Tony Johnston,of which the Chapter One is the translation assignment.It intends to analyze problems and to summarize methods used to solve these problems in the translation process.With the development of society,more people start to meet spiritual demands and explore a much bigger world.As an emerging style of tourism,adventure tourism brings more excitement and satisfaction.The translation of a variety of tourism texts also affect the development of tourism.So this translation practice aims to provide the Chinese translation and reference,as well as to promote the tourism industry.This report includes four major parts--translation task description,translation procedure description,case analysis and conclusion.Translation task description presents the background and features of the task.Translation procedure description is an introduction to the specific procedure of the translation.Case analysis focuses on the translation problems and strategies concerning with the translation of proper nouns and words in the specific context,the separation and combination of sentences,the solutions of quoted text and the concision of the translation.Under the guidance of Newmark's translation theory,the report provides solutions to the problems encountered and discusses the ways to solve similar translation problems.The conclusion part summarizes some unsolved problems in the translation practice.Hopefully it may be helpful for such translations.
