The translation report was based on the translation of the first chapter in the Research on Japan's Indiscriminate Bombing of Chongqing during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression by Dr.Pan Xun.This translation project washeld by the supervisor Dr.Kong Lingcui who organized a translation group in order to complete this project. The author's task was to finish the first chapter of the book. The author of the translation report applied the third stage of George Steiner's Fourfold Motion translation theory. In this translation report,a series of examples would be used, and the author wanted to combine the translation techniques and the translation practice with the help of the translation theory.Steiner mentioned that the third stage Embodimentgave two choices to the translators: Domestication and Foreignization.Because this source text was related to Chinese history and the translator planned to make the outsiders know it,the translator chose Domestication as the translation strategy.Besides,Steiner thought the third stage was the best stage for the translators to show their abilities in translation practice, and the author should follow this theory and chose the appropriate translation techniques in this report.Totally, this report is divided into five parts, including the introduction, the background of the source text,George Steiner's Fourfold Motion: Embodiment and translation strategy and techniques chosen by the author, case studies under the translation theory and the conclusion. In the first part, the author discussed the background, significance, and difficulties of the translation project;in the second part, the author made instruction to the writer, the source text, and some related things about the Bombing of Chongqing;in the third part, the author discussed George Steiner's theory and what strategy and techniques the author chose under the guidance of the theory;and then the author listed some examples combining the theory with translation techniques in the translation process;in the last part, the author summarized the translation project and concluded the experience from this project. After this translation project, the author learned much from the whole process and became more interested in translation. The supervisor led the translation group to collect parallel texts in English,Chinese, and Japanese to do both English-Chinese translation and Chinese-English translation. When doing the project, the translation group also conducted the academic translation studies.Besides, the author learned more about Steiner and his theory. The most important thing of the whole process was that the author had the chance to know the Bombing of Chongqing better, and let more uninformed people know this piece of history in the point of view of a local authority Dr.Pan.
