The source text of this translation report is selected from a historical document,Research on Japan’s Indiscriminate Bombing of Chongqing during the War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression,written by Professor Pan Xun.This part mainly elaborates the domestic and international influences of Japan’s bombing raid upon Chongqing.For such a historical document,the writer of this book researched a great number of historical materials and statistics for the purpose of revealing this phase of history to readers.In practice,based on Levy’s translation theory— “Translation as a Decision Process,” the author of this translation report analyzed and translated the original text,aiming to accurately convey the information and disseminate the historical facts to target text readers,and help more people to understand the influences of air raids conducted by the Japanese imperialists on Chongqing people and society.Under the guidance of Levy’s “Translation as a Decision Process,” the author is going to list some typical cases and analyze them according to certain translation methods.This project is not only conducive to the author’s experience accumulation of translating historical documents,but also provides references for similar projects in the future.This report is made up of Four Chapters.The first chapter mainly introduces the background,objectives and significance of this translation project,aiming at making a necessary introduction to the whole project from a macro point of view.The second chapter briefly discusses the guiding theory of this translation project and provides feasible solutions to the practical problems during translation.The third chapter puts an emphasis on disclosing the translation difficulties of the source text,and analyzes the typical cases based on the theory.The third Chapter is the key and difficult part as well as the heart of this report.Through induction and analysis of the cases from two different levels of language and culture,the author tries to solve the linguistic difficulties and make some cultural compensations to the Cultural Default phenomenon in the original text.The last chapter is the summary of this translation report,and the author expects it to be a reference for future exploration.
