In 2009,a science fiction film shot in a documentary form namedDistrict 9 was released,which has attracted much attention from the audiences from all circles since it came as a surprise for them.Without the special effects which are often applied in science fiction films as highlights,it is famous for its unique documentary style and makes people astonished at its inexpensive production budget about 30 million dollars.Like other popular current trends in science fiction films in recent years,it focuses on the alien creatures which are highly sought after by science fiction film fans and it depicts the process of implementing the mission signed by MNU(Multi-nation United)to evict aliens who accidentally appeared out of the district nearby the human residential areas and ends at the commander’s(the main actor Wikus)transformation into an alien and the success of aliens’ launch on the aircraft to leave the earth.Since its release,District 9 soon becomes the materials for many researchers due to its special plot of transformation of the main actor Wikus from a human into an alien and its close connection with the Apartheid in South Africa concerning about many similarities between them.Many researchers and scholars from both home and abroad conduct serious analysis on this film,trying to dissect the human nature,identity issues,and the similarities between the Apartheid and this film.In this paper,the author tries to analyze the film from the perspective of racism and intends to reveal the theme of anti-racism in this film from three main aspects.From the perspective of the choice of the background information in the film,the similarities between the Apartheid and the film show that they are delicate arrangements and its intention through the analysis of the author is to express the theme of anti-racism.Then the authors tries to concerns about the relations between the aliens and human,pointing out that human with their superior status conduct unfair treatments and stereotypes on aliens so that they can find an excuse to treat the aliens cruelly and to plunder the advanced weapon technology from the aliens.However,the success of the aliens’ escape from the earth is a satire for the superior human,leading to the presentation of the theme of anti-racism.Finally,the author focuses on the main actor Wikus.Through the analysis on the transformation experienced by him based on some identity theories,his opposite actions and thoughts before and after the transformation and the end of being saved by aliens all contribute to the anti-racism theme in this film.Through the analysis of the anti-racism theme in this film,the author hopes that it can provide a different perspective for people to ponder on this film and can serve as a reminder of the racism existing in modern world.
