This is a project report on the translation of Chapter 1 of “Eco-Business: A Big Brand Takeover of Sustainability” authored by Peter Dauvergne and Jane Lister. This book introduces the rise and development of eco-business,and reveals the essence of eco-business by exploring eco-business' role in promoting the economy through big brands' sustainable development. In the meantime, this translation project can not only provide a new direction for the domestic scholars to study eco-business,but also can invite domestic scholars, big brands, environmental organizations and consumers to reflect on the fact that eco-business has a dual impacts on the economy and the environment. This report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is an introduction to the translation project, including project background and significance of the report.Chapter Two gives an overall analysis of the source text, which contains profile of the authors, main contents and linguistic features of the source text.Chapter Three is about translation theory and preparation, and this report is based on skopos theory put forward by Hans J.Vermeer and the information focus theory.Chapter Four focuses on difficulties and translation techniques used in the translation process, especially the translation of long and complex sentences in scientific English.Chapter Five summarizes the experience from the practice and some problems which haven't been solved in the translation process. In this translation project, the translator mainly analyzes the purpose of the project according to skopos theory and complies with skopos rule and coherence rule in the process of translation. As the source text falls into scientific text, the translation of the long sentence is the difficulty of the report.Consequently, the translator mainly adopts sequencing method, inversion method, splitting method and synthetic method to make sure that the target text accords with the expression of Chinese habit and the meaning of the source text can be clearly conveyed to the target readers.
