An Experimental Report On English-Chinese Translation Guided By Skopos Theory

Tourism industry has been flourishing nowadays,which makes the translation of tourism texts become more crucial to the publicity and introduction of tourism culture.To some extent,the quality of their translation can also exert an influence on tourists' overall perceptions of and their attitudes towards tourist countries.Guided by Skopos Theory put forward by German Functional School,this thesis mainly reports the E-C translation of Exploring the Carpathian Garden.Romania First of all,the author briefly states the background of the selection of this project,reviews relevant literature and mentions the significance of this research.Next,the author describes the process of translation,which is divided into three stages,including pre-translation preparations,translation analysis and checking and proof-readsing the translation.Furthermore,the author presents analysis of the language characteristics of the English tourism text from lexical,syntactical and textual levels.Then,the author introduces the theory base of this theory,on which the author uses a case study,with regard to the acceptability of target texts and readers,to illustrate the application of such translation methods and techniques in this practice under the three principles of Skopos Theory as: the literal translation approach,the liberal translation approach,amplification,division and so on.At last,the author summarizes up the findings and experiences from this translation practice and points out its deficiency.This thesis is intended to prove the feasibility or practicability of the Functionalist Skopos Theory for translation of tourism-texts,and hope to enlighten the translators of tourism texts and help them do their translation better.
