The Technological Thought Of Chuang-Tzu

The master’s thesis examines Chuang-Tzu’s thoughts of technology from three aspects:the connotation of technology,the representation of technology and the world of technology.It concluded that the core of Chuang-Tzu’s technical thought is "Tao".Chuang-Tzu’s connotation of technology is based on the original meaning of"technology".It is composed of "knack" and "art","artifacts" and "machine",as well as "Tao" and "method".The essence of Chuang-Tzu’s technology is not the "knack"of some kinds of operation,but the fact that the technique should follow the Tao.This not only gives a new vitality to the technology,but also has a profound experience of survival.Chuang-Tzu’s representation of technology is mainly presented in"knack-passages" of the book Chuang-Tzu.It shows three technical situations:the life-civilizing of fable,political civilizing of tautology and Tao’s civilizing of Zhiyan,contains three technical topics:the body,artifacts and nature,which they present a world of "Tao".Chuang-Tzu also describes the process of technical generation and the approaches to the Tao in the "knack-passages" which demonstrates the instrumental value,intrinsic value and maximum value of technology.Chuang-Tzu’s world of technology is rooted in the background of the decay of Tao’s society and the alienation of technology.In order to reverse the situation,Chuang-Tzu constructs a technical world of the "supreme virtue" with the model of the original cooperation society of human nature and moral simplicity,which man and man,people and nature,man and society have good relationships.The technical world of the "supreme virtue" can "follow the Tao" and "realizes the change",so then achieves the balanced and harmonious development between man and nature,and the ideal goal of "the unity of heaven and man".Chuang-Tzu’s thought of "following the Tao" and "approach to the Tao" is of great significance in modern times.It plays an important role in guiding development of modern technology,which points out the correct path to overcome the technical dissimilation,implement technology humanization and solve the problem of technology and nature.At the same time,it provides the method and principle for realizing the balance of human and self,the harmony of man and nature and the harmony of man and man.
