On The Translation Of Children's Literature From The Perspective Of Translation Ethics

According to records,it is twenty-five hundred years ago that Chinese characters"? " and "?" were put together to form a meaningful phrase for the first time.But the concept of "??"' in modern sense appeared about four hundred years later.When looking back to the evolution of the meaning of "??",it is not difficult to find that its extension presents the trend to expand constantly.As we know,human behaviors are always subject to a certain set of rules or ethics.Likewise,people's behaviors involved in translation should be under the rule of specific ethics.To be exact,the ethics which offers people the perspective to judge and evaluate translation activities or tasks are frequently referred to as translation ethics.Since the 1980s,when French translation theorist,Antoine Berman,put forward to the initial idea of "translation ethics";shortly afterwards,the relevant studies on translation ethics were increasing dramatically.However,there is no theory or subject that could be improved or accomplished once and for all,so it is the same case with translation ethics.It was not until 2001 that The Return to Ethics was published as the special issue of the famous magazine The Translator.In the preface of the special issue,Anthony Pym came straight to the point that translation studies have returned to the question of translation ethics.In the meantime,Finnish scholar,Andrew Chesterman,also contributed an article entitled "Proposal for a Hieronymic Oath",which is honored as the the most eminent work in the field of translation ethics.With the joint efforts of scholars at both home and abroad,the studies on translation ethics achieved great success both theoretically and practically.In this thesis,the author carefully selects the translation of Bronze and Sunflower as the text support.Chesterman's models of translation ethics,together with the relevant studies on children's literature is employed as the theoretical framework to analyze the English version of Bronze and Sunflower.Through this case study,the author of this thesis intends to arouse people's attention to the study of translation ethics and children's literature translation;Apart from this aspect,the author contributes his part by virtue of offering a new perspective with the hope to make beneficiary exploration on the application of translation ethics in other literary genres.
