Application Of Animatronics As Visual Effect In The Low Budget Short Film

Since the 21 st century,under the tide of the digitization,film and television special effects based on CGI technology have already created visual spectacle one after another.Mechanical puppets and other physical effects are gradually being ignored by the film maker,this paper mainly combines my short film "pocket watch" to explore mechanical puppets as a means of special effects,compared to computer animation to demonstrate its more suitable for low-cost short film production,and then summed up and summarized the production of mechanical puppets and how to use it.In this paper,the psychological and visual principles of film and television special effects will be introduced,and also the development and application of animatronics as special effects will be expounded.The development of puppets using in film shooting in the early 19 th century and the application of animatronics in modern films after the Rise of Computer Animation Technology since 1990 s.In the pursuit of visual experience,the mechanical puppets are used in the graduation project "pocket watch",borrowed from hollywood in the mechanical puppets design and production experience in the film and television production to show the dislocation of the illusion of time,by using a series of mechanical puppet design and production.In the practical shooting,combined with lighting and traditional "Perspective" special effects photography techniques,making the short film "pocket watch" finally succeeded in showing monsters break out from ones body.
