Study On Narrative Characteristics Of Visual Effects In Short Stories

In recent years,the digital technology changes everyday and it makes outstanding contributions to the film industry.While leading the movies go forward gloriously,the digital technology creates extraordinary commercial values and artistic achievement.Visual effects have had definite technology attribute since it was born.It is a technical skill,also it is a story-telling tool.The narrative attribute of the visual effects is discussing about the narrative purpose,narrative space and time,narrative structure and so many multiple dimensions,including the definition of geography,character,culture,environment and other elements.Gradually,the visual effects are becoming the most significant component of the creation of the digital movie.This article takes the original work “Kite Flying Man”as an example,combining some related theoretical basis and creating experience to discuss the narrative function and rules of the visual effects.The first chapter summarizes and clear up the narrative conception.Also it analyses the connection between the visual effects and narration from the theoretical basis,the process of development,creating rules and so on.Meanwhile,it analyses what kind of narrative change the visual effects would bring.In the second chapter,the paper discusses the space and time constructions rules of visual effects “real”and “fictitious”and the development of “symbol”and“metaphor”functions in original works according to the temporal and spatial narrative theory and movie works.The third chapter concludes the narrative rules of visual effects according to the above,and further clear up the theoretical substance related to the original works.As a foreshadowing,rhetoric,transition,the visuale ffects combines“reproduction”,“overprinting”,“digital painting”,“post-synthesis” and other technology used in the original works,discussing the relationship between the technology and image,technology and content,and technology and form.At the end,this paper summarizing how visual effects would be balanced with the content of the short film and how they will be combined with the text closely in order to narrate.
