| Louis Moreau Gottschalk is one of the most prominent 19 th century American musician.He is an excellent pianist.Chopin predicted him as "The king of the piano," Berlioz evaluated him “One of a small number of pianist overcoming all the technical difficulties.His playing is daring,brilliant and original which makes people feel dazzled and stunned." In addition,Gottschalk is also a"piano composer",creating about 200 piano solo pieces.His piano works reflect his recognition of multiculturalism and the ability of adopting regional features,being considered the representative of the budding period in American professional creation.Among them,Souvenir de Porto Rico is one of the representative works created by Gottschalk in the Western Indiana period.The piece was written in 1857 and published in Mainz circa 1860 and it made a lot use of Latin-American musical elements.This paper is based on the analysis of the structure of the work and the use of regional music elements,intending to make reference suggestions for the performance of the work,which is rooted in the life and times of the artist. |
