With the increase of world trade, the demand for translation of business contract is also on the rise. However, the quality of translation varies from one to another and cannot reach the required standard.Besides, the quality of translators and interpreters also needs improving.Business contracts have both the characteristics of business text and legal text, therefore,it is very difficult and challenging for translators to translate such specialized text.In this thesis,I will study the case of Investment Agreement on the Establishment of a Hong Kong Based Reinsurance Business and discuss the characteristics and translation strategies for Business Contract from the perspective of the contrast between Chinese and English, context and discourse, and text style. From the perspective of the contrast between Chinese and English, translators need to know the language traits of Chinese and English, especially the distinct languages structures and usage between the two languages in business contracts, which tend to have more passive than active tenses, more nouns than verbs and long difficult sentences than simple sentences.I will use the theory of "Equivalence",especially "Dynamic Equivalence" to examine how to turn pass sentences into active sentences, use verbs instead of nouns to achieve the equivalence of translation as well as how to deal with long and complex sentences. From the perspective of context and background,I will specify the context and discourse of Business contract and the usage of words and phrases to help translators learn about different usages of common words. It is also necessary for translators to accumulate vocabulary and knowledge in business text and legal text.As for text style,I will elaborate how to make your translation more formal and accurate by the means of using model verbs and old English, avoiding oral expressions and clarifying words' meanings.
